The night the ice almost gave way

The ice in an ice rink is kept alive by the refrigeration plant, compressors that run non-stop all season. When they drop out at night, a few wasted kilowatt-hours are not the problem. The ice gives way within hours and takes the whole week with it: practices, matches, public skating, rentals.

That’s why Enmon meters critical systems at short intervals and compares consumption against the normal profile. A deviation means a phone notification, to the caretaker, the plant operator, whoever is on duty. Next to this is the log of one model night.

This isn’t optimisation, it’s insurance. One averted breakdown pays for it, and the savings on the bills are a bonus on top.

Without the night alarm, the failure would only be found in the morning, and instead of a service call-out, you’d be dealing with softening ice and a disrupted schedule. The same watch works for pool filtration, water heating and dehumidification.

What does an hour of ice cost?

At most facilities, the rental price list is inherited from last season and adjusted by feel. Yet all it takes is metering, and every operating hour gets its true cost. A model complex:

Pools under one owner, consumption per year

The aquapark burns by far the most, and yet per visitor it’s the most efficient. The real problem is South Pool: 17,1 kWh per visitor, 47 % more than comparable pools. The usual culprit: an ageing dehumidification unit with no heat recovery. The benchmark tells the owner where to send investment first, and where tuning the operation is enough.
